The Government and International Politics Academy is an immersive academic program designed to introduce students to the complex structures of government, global diplomacy, and international relations. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how political systems function both domestically and internationally, while encouraging students to think critically about policy, leadership, and global decision-making. Through an engaging and interactive curriculum, participants gain valuable insight into what it means to work in government and shape public policy.

Students explore the inner workings of political systems, including how elections are conducted, how political campaigns are organized, and how laws are drafted, debated, and passed within legislative bodies such as Congress. The program also examines the policy-making process in depth, helping students understand how ideas evolve into formal legislation that impacts society.

A key focus of the academy is diplomacy and international relations. Students learn how countries interact, negotiate, and cooperate on the global stage. Topics such as game theory are introduced to help participants understand strategic decision-making in diplomatic contexts, including conflict resolution, alliances, and international negotiations.

The course also provides a strong foundation in political theory. Students study different ideological frameworks, including authoritarianism, totalitarianism, populism, liberalism, and conservatism. This allows them to compare systems of governance and understand how political ideologies influence policy and leadership styles around the world.

What sets this program apart is its practical, hands-on approach to learning. Students are placed in the role of future policymakers, where they develop and present their own public policy proposals. Working in teams, they analyze real-world issues, construct viable solutions, and present their ideas in a structured policy pitch to Harvard student judges. This experience builds confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Throughout the program, students are encouraged to engage in discussion, debate ideas, and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. This helps them develop a deeper appreciation for the challenges and responsibilities faced by government officials and diplomats.

By the end of the academy, participants will have a strong understanding of international politics, governance, and policy development. They will also gain practical experience in public speaking, analytical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. The Government: International Politics Academy is ideal for students interested in law, politics, international relations, or public service.
